According to a study done by Microsoft, Denver is the 4th ranked city for telecommuting. The study factors things like ability to work outside of the office, formal work from home programs, and support from supervisors and IT to allow employees to work from home. The Denver Business Journal has more on this story.
I know most companies have the technology in place to allow their employees to work remotely, but I am wondering how many of your employers actually encourage it.

According to the Denver Business Journal, Ink! Coffee (started in Aspen, CO) has partnered with Big Fat Cupcakes (based in Denver) and you will soon be able to purchase Big Fat Cupcakes at Ink! Coffee stores. I know, try to contain your excitement.

From CNNMoney.com/Fortune magazine comes the 2010 World’s Most Admired Companies. The top 10 are:
1. Apple
2. Google
3. Berkshire Hathaway
4. Johnson & Johnson
5. Amazon.com
6. Procter & Gamble
7. Toyota Motor
8. Goldman Sachs Group
9. Wal-Mart Stores
10. Coca-Cola
The lists are also broke down by industry. Represnting Colorado were Liberty Media and Western Union. Liberty Media came in at number 8 (out of 8 ) in the industry group of Internet Services and Retailing and Western Union came in at number 6 (out of 8 ) in Consumer Credit Card and Services group.

A new study published by The Goss Institute for Economic Research (“an independent bi-partisan think tank designed to conduct quality business and economic research…”) says that Colorado’s economy continues to grow.
As for those 2nd Quarter job gains – not likely. It was noted in the report that they don’t expect job gains in the second quarter. Keep in mind that this is for all industries and all job disciplines.

Monster has agreed to acquire Yahoo’s HotJobs for $225M. HotJobs has been struggling and has not been receiving as much traffic from employers or recruiters. As a result of this, job seekers haven’t been visiting the site either. I am not sure what use Monster has for Hotjobs technology, but they must have seen some value in them, right?

According to FEI (Financial Executive International) and Baruch College, more than half of CFO’s surveyed don’t plan to replace positions that were eliminated.
